THE WICKED THING - THE BROOD

One of the only surviving 'garage' group from the 80s (read: this is not a reunion!), The Brood, who hail from Portland, Maine, formed in 1983 order to play the garage-fuzz sounds the love so much. The femme four are Chris Horne, lead singer and guitarist; Crystal Light, drummer; Betsy Mitchell, bass and Asch Gregory, organist and back-up vocalist. The Brood only play authentic 60s vintage instruments, keeping alive the mid-60s sound by their heroes The Chocolate Watch Band, The Standells, ? And The Mysterians a mong others. With a mash of snarling guitars, relentless drumming and the all important Vox and Farfisa organs, it all works together giving the sound that is unique to that period. It's rare to find an all-girl group who has broken away from the passive prissiness expected from all-female combos! Their discography reads like a phone book with full-length releases on Dionysus, Estrus and Get Hip, plus singles and compilation tracks on Norton, Soon-To-Be-Rare-Records (Germany), Midnight, Mystery Scene (Germany), and many others!
